Why Choose an Electric Golf Trolley

Why I Use An Electric Golf Trolley

Upgrading to an electric golf trolley was a simply, easy to make decision, after I borrowed a friends trolley because of a shoulder injury.

First of all, heres a little background. I regularly play golf, at least 3 times per week. In the summer this will be more like 5 times per week. I’m self employed and golf is my business as well, so this keeps me healthy and happy. And I regularly play competitive golf, which will normally be 27 or 36 holes per day.

Now, I’m not old by any means, but as the saying goes, nobody gets any younger. And a while ago I started to get backache and shoulder ache, which mainly made itself known after I had gotten home after playing golf all day. At this time I was using a pull along trolley with a decent sized golf bag, because I like to have the full compliment of 14 clubs, plus the other bits and pieces that we all collect over time. Then on top of that you have a couple of bottles of water, and a couple of bananas. And of course it all starts to add up.

Anyway I somehow managed to pull a shoulder muscle and had a very important game the next day. The particular muscle that was injured, was not one which caused any problem during my golf swing. But it did cause me a problem when I tried to pull my golf trolley. So I got in touch with a friend who used an electric golf trolley and asked if I could use it for the day.

I then went out and played some of the best golf of my life. ( Another old saying is *Beware the injured golfer* ) And I still felt full of energy after playing 36 holes. No aches, No pains, No problems.

The next day I was having a day off, so I dug out as many old scorecards as I could find, and started doing a little checking up. After going through a few of them a pattern started to emerge and it became obvious that I was dropping the majority of my strokes in the last 6 holes of every game. Which in turn, because of the way I had played the previous day, made me realise that this was down to a simply case of I was losing energy towards the end of a game. I knew I was not going to get any younger, so I needed to look for another way to reduce the energy consumption during the round. Which, obviously leads to the pulling around of a golf trolley loaded down with golf clubs and excess golf gear.

So it was straight onto my online golf supplier and ordered a lightweight 3 wheel push trolley. I went for this trolley because I wanted to see if I could save the energy without the major expense of an electric golf trolley. And also because I knew that if it was not the right choice, I could always re-sell it quite easily. For the next month I kept a careful check on my scores and while I noticed some improvement, it was not as much as I had hoped for. Which meant it was a case of going back online and doing loads of research to find the best value electric golf trolley that suited my requirements.

One of my concerns was the fact that I would constantly need to be recharging the batteries and this was going to cost me money. Which is when I remembered the solar powered trickle charger I had fitted to my car. This gave me the idea to purchase an extra set of batteries, a small wind turbine and a small solar panel, the necessary convertor and the bits and pieces. I installed the wind turbine and solar panel on the garage roof, set up the convertor and stuff on a shelf inside the garage, and voila, free battery re-charging for life.

Okay, it may have been a larger initial expense, but in the longer term, it will save me a small fortune in electricity bills. I now easily carry my full set of clubs, waterproofs, extra balls, and extra everything else with no problems what so ever. Purchasing an electric golf trolley will not be an option that is suitable for everyone. I personally think that if you play less than twice a week, it is just a waste of money, get a good quality 3 wheeled push trolley and that will serve you quite adequately.

And as for the golf. Thats a no-brainer. My scores have improved dramatically, and my handicap is dropping like a rock, and I no longer feel absolutely cream crackered after 27 or 36 holes of golf.

Happy golfing.
